Socially distanced weddings in 2020

How on earth has ‘socially distanced’ become a word we don’t even bat an eyelid at? Especially ‘socially distanced weddings’… The one occasion that’s always about love, happiness and hugs is now having to be at a distance! Oh 2020, how you have changed us.

Tomorrow I will do my first covid wedding, which of course will be socially distanced. How will this affect the day, the photos and ultimately the affection? Now as I’ve said I haven’t myself photographed any yet, but Milly (my righthand girl) has photographed two, both of which I have edited. I can hand on heart say these photos look faultless, (no not just because Milly is a great photographer) because the day was stress free. Instead of having over 150 guests for the couple to be worrying about spending equal time with and making sure everyone is fed and happy, they are sitting down, laughing and relaxing. They’re able to really enjoy the wedding they have planned with their nearest and dearest, the people who they can be completely themselves with… Now isn’t that the wedding day that everyone dreams of?

Photos tend to be an area of concern that comes with a wedding. I get it. Even though I wish photos weren’t anything for anyone to worry about, I understand the worry of not being able to capture their special day and the even greater worry regarding socially distanced photos. Nonetheless, this does not mean the photos can not be utterly beautiful. And as a photo can speak a thousand words, I think I’ll let this one do the talking…

*No, this (unfortunately) wasn’t taken by me or Milly before you ask*

This photo is impossible not to love. Naturally beautiful and portraying pure happiness in its most simple form; family.

Now I know not all of us can wear a dress that was our Granny’s or borrow her tiara and afford the most perfect array of flowers, but this photo is safely socially distanced and I would happily make the bold claim that it’s the best Royal photo I have ever seen.

Kudos to Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi for being brave enough to step outside of the usual Royal traditions of having a huge event.

Much Love,

Em x
